Crew management questions

Nanak Ship Management offers crew management from India, covering STCW and MLC-aligned manning, credential vetting, training, welfare, travel logistics and payroll for vessels worldwide. North Star Maritime connects owners and operators to that team.

Manning means supplying crew whose certificates meet STCW competence standards and whose conditions follow MLC 2006. Nanak Ship Management crew management aligns each placement to both frameworks before the seafarer joins the vessel.

Nanak Ship Management quotes a 14 to 30 day onboarding timeline, depending on the vessel’s Class status and location. Share the vessel type, ranks and start date with the operations team to confirm what is possible.

Contracts are primarily BIMCO SHIPMAN plus tailored crew management agreements. Details of the ship management service are on the Nanak Ship Management website; ask operations how the agreement would apply to your vessel.

Yes, through the Nanak group: crew management at Nanak Ship Management, STCW-related training at the Nanak Shipping Institute and officer pathways at ProCareerTek. This means an owner or a seafarer can deal with one group for manning, vetting, courses and career guidance instead of coordinating several unrelated firms.

Use the crew request builder on this site or call +91 98920 82041 with the vessel type, ranks or trades, numbers and start date. The Nanak Ship Management operations team replies within one working day.

03 · Vetting

Vetting questions

Credential vetting checks the seafarer’s Continuous Discharge Certificate, references and medicals under MLC 2006 before joining. This is part of crew management at Nanak Ship Management, which also handles training and travel logistics.

The CDC is a seafarer’s record of service. It is one of the documents checked during credential vetting, together with references and medical fitness. See how crew vetting works before a seafarer joins.

References confirm a seafarer’s experience, conduct and suitability for the rank. Together with certificates and medicals they give an owner confidence in the person joining. Ask Nanak Ship Management how references are verified.

Seafarers must be medically fit for service, and medicals are checked as part of vetting under MLC 2006 standards. Contact operations to understand the requirements for your vessel and trade.

Yes. The Nanak Shipping Institute lists 200+ maritime courses, including Enclosed Space Entry, Bridge Team Management and Engine Room Resource Management, so gaps can be addressed before deployment. Planning this early, before the contract start date, avoids last-minute delays and keeps the joining schedule on track for both the seafarer and the owner.

Yes. The interactive readiness check on this site mirrors the typical pre-joining items. For a full vetting service, speak to Nanak Ship Management. It is a planning aid, not a certificate, so treat it as a conversation starter and confirm the actual documents and approvals with the operations team.

04 · STCW & MLC

STCW and MLC questions

STCW stands for Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers. It sets training and certification standards that crew must meet. The Nanak Shipping Institute offers maritime courses across navigation, engineering and safety.

The Maritime Labour Convention 2006 sets minimum standards for seafarers’ working and living conditions, including hours of work and rest, accommodation, food and medical care. Nanak Ship Management crew management follows MLC 2006 seafarer standards.

STCW concerns competence: training, certification and watchkeeping. MLC concerns conditions: rest hours, accommodation, welfare and medical care. A compliant crew needs both, which is why crew management aligns to each.

The Nanak Shipping Institute featured courses include Bridge Team Management Refresher, Engine Room Resource Management, Ballast Water Treatment Systems and Enclosed Space Entry, plus advanced training such as Leadership and Human Element.

Fatigue affects safety, so MLC 2006 and STCW set rest-hour expectations. Good crew management plans rotations and contracts around them. Learn how crew welfare and manning are handled. It also protects owners, because records of rest and work hours are checked during inspections and audits of the vessel.

ProCareerTek offers IMU-CET coaching, deck and engine officer programs, ratings and Sri Lanka CoC facilitation; see ProCareerTek services. These programs guide a candidate from the first entrance exam through to cadetship, and the team will explain which route fits your qualifications and goals.

05 · Labour

Labour supply questions

Yes. International labour supply from Nanak Ship Management includes certified electricians, welders (6G, TIG and MIG), structural fitters and skilled and general helpers, supplied from India. Share the trades, numbers, location and dates through the crew request builder, and the operations team will confirm availability and the onboarding timeline.

6G is a demanding welding position qualification for pipe, while TIG and MIG are welding processes. Nanak Ship Management lists welders qualified in 6G, TIG and MIG among its labour supply trades.

The team handles travel logistics, documents and joining arrangements, within a 14 to 30 day timeline depending on location. Start by sharing your project with operations. The exact timing depends on the destination, documents and the number of workers, so an early enquiry helps the team plan a smooth start.

Yes. Certified riding repair squads can board at anchor or en route for overhauls and renewals; see Nanak Ship Management services. Squads suit overhauls, renewals and repairs that must be completed while the vessel keeps trading, and the operations team can scope the work with you.

Yes. Courses such as Enclosed Space Entry at the Nanak Shipping Institute prepare people for safe work in tanks and confined spaces. Safety training before joining reduces risk on site and helps contractors and yards meet their own safety requirements before work begins.

Use the crew request builder here or call +91 98920 82041. Give the trades, numbers, location and dates, and Nanak Ship Management will respond with next steps. A clear brief with trades, numbers, location and start date lets the team respond quickly with availability and the next steps.

06 · Welfare

Welfare and payroll questions

Welfare is part of crew management at Nanak Ship Management, alongside vetting, training, travel logistics and payroll. It covers care before, during and after a contract. The aim is that seafarers are supported at every stage and that owners have a transparent, well-documented crew arrangement they can rely on.

Payroll is administered as part of crew management, so seafarers are paid accurately and on time under their agreements. Ask Nanak Ship Management how payroll would work for your vessel.

Travel logistics for joining and repatriation are arranged within crew management, so crew changes run to plan. This covers joining and return journeys, documents and coordination with the vessel, so crew changes happen on time and without avoidable stress for the seafarer.

Rested, supported crews make better decisions. MLC 2006 standards on rest, accommodation and care exist for this reason, and Nanak Ship Management aligns its crew management to them. That is why welfare, rest and accommodation are treated as part of safe operations rather than extras.

Yes. The Leadership and Human Element course (NSI-019) at the Nanak Shipping Institute addresses leadership and wellbeing at sea. It is designed for officers who lead teams, and it complements technical courses by building communication, decision-making and awareness of crew wellbeing on board.

Call +91 98920 82041 or use the contact form here, and the team will route you to crew management, training or careers. Questions about contracts, travel or training are welcome, and a team member will reply within one working day.
