STCW & MLC

Two standards. One crew.

STCW sets competence. MLC 2006 sets conditions. A compliant crew needs both, and the Nanak group supports each.

FAQ

Questions we are asked most

STCW stands for Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers. It sets training and certification standards that crew must meet. The Nanak Shipping Institute offers maritime courses across navigation, engineering and safety.

The Maritime Labour Convention 2006 sets minimum standards for seafarers’ working and living conditions, including hours of work and rest, accommodation, food and medical care. Nanak Ship Management crew management follows MLC 2006 seafarer standards.

STCW concerns competence: training, certification and watchkeeping. MLC concerns conditions: rest hours, accommodation, welfare and medical care. A compliant crew needs both, which is why crew management aligns to each.

The Nanak Shipping Institute featured courses include Bridge Team Management Refresher, Engine Room Resource Management, Ballast Water Treatment Systems and Enclosed Space Entry, plus advanced training such as Leadership and Human Element.

Fatigue affects safety, so MLC 2006 and STCW set rest-hour expectations. Good crew management plans rotations and contracts around them. Learn how crew welfare and manning are handled. It also protects owners, because records of rest and work hours are checked during inspections and audits of the vessel.

ProCareerTek offers IMU-CET coaching, deck and engine officer programs, ratings and Sri Lanka CoC facilitation; see ProCareerTek services. These programs guide a candidate from the first entrance exam through to cadetship, and the team will explain which route fits your qualifications and goals.
